I love living in London, but sometimes my work and travels mean I forget to appreciate the city I call home. So when the opportunity arose to join the IHG® Rewards Club program and spend some valuable rewards points, I decided it was the perfect time to experience something right on my doorstep.
I decided to use my points to plan the ultimate West End date night (which my boyfriend was pretty happy about!). I absolutely adore going to the theatre and have done since I was young, so I knew the evening had to involve a West End show. Here’s what I got up to on my luxurious West End date night with IHG® Rewards Club.
Checking in at The InterContinental Park Lane
The experience began when my boyfriend Scott and I checked in at The InterContinental Park Lane. As a luxury travel blogger, The InterContinental has always been high on my London hotel hit-list, so I couldn’t wait to stay for the night! We arrived early afternoon and received a warm welcome, as well as a free room upgrade for being an IHG® Rewards member. Not a bad start!
A Festive Afternoon Tea
After checking out our luxurious room, it was back down to The Wellington Lounge for Afternoon Tea. Because we were staying in December, the traditional Afternoon Tea menu had been reinvented with a festive twist, which really got me into the Christmas spirit.
Highlights on the menu included a warm stilton, chestnut and walnut vol-au-vent, turkey, sage and onion stuffing sandwiches and pigs in blankets. Next came the scone course, which included both Christmas spiced and classic sultana scones. The final sweet course was the most impressive, as the mini desserts were presented in a ‘Christmas present’. Finished with a big red bow, it was our job to unwrap the present and discover the treats inside.
The experience was made extra special thanks to our waiter, Thomas, who served us throughout and couldn’t do enough for us. He presented and explained each course beautifully, and even brought us out an extra round of savoury bites!
Dinner at Bob Bob Ricard
Next up was a pre-theatre dinner at one of the West End’s most talked about restaurants. Bob Bob Ricard is a Russian European fusion restaurant located on Upper James Street. I wanted to find a restaurant in the heart of the West End with delicious food, great service and a buzzing atmosphere. Luckily, Bob Bob Ricard fit the bill perfectly. I went for a baked cheese soufflé starter followed by a creamy fish pie for the main course.
The Book of Mormon
After our pre-theatre dinner, it was time for the highlight of the evening, an evening performance of The Book of Mormon! I have wanted to see this play ever since it arrived in London and it was even better than I anticipated. IHG® Rewards Club had secured us stall seats, so we were close to the action.
The Book of Mormon is definitely controversial, and not for those who are easily shocked, but my boyfriend and l loved it. We laughed all the way through and the catchy songs stayed in our heads for days after. Along with Billy Elliot and Jersey Boys, The Book of Mormon is one of the best West End shows I have seen.
Overnight at The InterContinental Park Lane
Throughout the whole evening it was a great feeling to know that at the end of it we would retreat back to the luxury of The InterContinental Park Lane. I made the most of the suite by running a warm bubble bath and wrapping myself up in the fluffy white robes.
The king size bed was incredibly comfortable and the luxurious bed linen felt like lying on a cloud. We had a great view overlooking Park Lane. I sat watching the cars and headlights go by late at night and remembered that London truly is a city that never sleeps! Next morning I got to check out the expansive breakfast buffet, and treated myself to a wickedly delicious all-butter croissant and a couple of poached eggs.
My stay at The InterContinental Park Lane was an absolute delight. The whole experience really helped me to remember how unique and electrifying London can be and I enjoyed feeling like a tourist in my own city.
Thanks to IHG® Rewards Club for this wonderful London experience.
